Vacation 2012
Started normal. . .easy drive to the airport, breakfast for me at McDonald's, a 2nd breakfast for both girls at McDonalds, and NO invasive pat-downs as we checked in.
However, M. did lie to a security guard.
Things were a little different than normal this time at the airport.
The girls had to hand their boarding pass to security, then they asked their names.
I told them to be sure to answer loudly enough to be heard.
M. got her name right, but when he asked her age. . .she said that she was 6.
(But don't mention it to her. Apparently, this is a sensitive subject as we found out later!)
Another good point about having the girls is that none of us had to go through the "naked" machine or "porn scan" (as Tim calls it).
Girls waiting on the plane.
Flight was also uneventful except that it seemed to take a long time to get our snacks and drinks, which shouldn't have been a big deal since we had McDonalds at 9:30, but our flight was 11:30-1:30. We wanted lunch!
However, lunch would be delayed until 3:00 because of the following:
What does not look like anything in this photo is really a bag saturated in suntan oil, nasty, smelly suntan oil (which was obviously not ours since I apparently burn with SPF 55 sunscreen).
It seeped into our bag and also was on the outside of the BIG suitcase.
The airlines offered to replace it, which would be an easy decision if it was our luggage, but it wasn't. It was my parents, and they were in a funeral at the exact time we found all this out.
However, we finally talked to them, received 3 pieces of luggage for 2, and are getting free checked bags on the flight home for 4 pieces, which is good since we got an "extra" piece of luggage to bring home.
However, Tim was very excited about our rental car!
(Our luggage didn't quite fit though)
Finally, we arrived. The view was worth the ruined luggage (along with a shirt and M.s' bunny), late lunch, and the possibility of losing 2 houses we were interested in back at home.
Ta da. . .
Since then, nothin' but fun in the sun (and the rain!)
The girls LOVE the ocean! Both are into "catching" waves. L. has decided when she grows up she would like to be a surfer. (I told her that I don't think surfers grow up.)
M. has drawn quite the bird following. As she was sitting in the ocean, a Pelican swoops in beside her and sits just behind her but she doesn't see it. Tim points, M. turns, and her eyes get HUGE!
The pelican leaves to be replaced by a crane as tall as M. It stares M. down. M. stares down the crane. The crane moves towards her, as if he is going to take her down. Tim has to go stand with her. The crane realizes he's not as tall as he thought and eventually walks away! Wish I would have had it on video!
The following pic (with the flags behind us) is at the Spanish Pointe Restaurant, which was recommended to us when we asked about a family friendly, fun place to go.
We pulled up and saw no restaurant but more of a hut-type place. We had to ask if we were in the right place. And, NO kids menu so adult meals (and prices) for all. More like a pub. Very interesting.
However, BEST fish ever and FABULOUS fries! (And, I am a connoisseur of fries).
As we were leaving, the family friendly restaurant was about to have a band, which M. requested that we leave before they started!
Great food! Fun time on the water! Not quite what we expected.
However, L. was a comedy act that night.
At one point, I bit into an onion ring, and all the onion was hanging out.
She says, "You need a little less onion, and a lot more Ring!"
Couldn't get the full picture, but it was a FULL rainbow! AWESOME!
